NSRC Staff and Volunteer Activities Around the World 2010

Where we were and what we did during 2010:

December 13-15: NSRC staff Carlos Vicente and Greg Shepherd from Cisco organized and assisted with a Hands-on Multicast workshop at the Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand.
November 22-27: NSRC personnel Phil Regnauld and Carlos Vicente lead a workshop on Network Monitoring and Management, presented during the Conference and helped organize the PacNOG 8 meeting held in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.
November 1-4: Dale Smith and Steven Huter worked with Internet2 personnel to organize some of the international sessions at the Fall 2010 Internet2 Member Meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. NSRC sponsored travel for colleagues from Ghana and Nigeria to participate in the meeting and present updates about the research and education network (REN) developments in their countries.
October 28: Alain Aina of the NSRC taught sessions on DNSSEC at the INET Tunisia conference, "Transition to IPv6 and security of the naming system" held in Tunis, Tunisia at the Technopark El Ghazala.
October 21-29: NSRC personnel Phil Regnauld and Brian Candler taught a Network Management Workshop at the MENOG 7 meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.
October 19-21: Hervey Allen participated in the LACNOG 2010 and LACNIC XIV events held jointly in São Paulo, Brazil.
October 18-19: Steven Huter participated in the High-Level Conference on the Connectivity of West and Central African Higher Education Institutions that took place in Accra, Ghana and was organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Ghana and by the Assocation of African Universities (AAU).
October 13-15: Steven Huter participated in the National Science Foundation sponsored workshop, Cyberinfrastructure and the Dimensions in Biodiversity - Planning for Success held at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin. Additional information is available here.
October 11-15: NSRC personnel Hervey Allen, Carlos Armas and Carlos Vicente with José Domínguez taught and helped to organize the WALC 2010 event held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia at the Universidad Privada de la Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia (UPSA).
September 27-October 2: NSRC personnel Phil Regnauld and Alain Aina assisted with curriculum preparation, training lab design, and teaching for the French and English Advanced Registry Operations Courses (AROC) held in partnership with the Africa Top Level Domains (AFTLD) event held in Bamako, Mali.
September 13-17:UO-NSRC personnel Steven Huter, Dale Smith, Sebastian Buettrich and José Domínguez participated in the NSRC-GARNET-KENET Campus Network Design/NREN Development Workshop held at the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana, with assistance from Kevin Chege of the Kenyan Education Network Trust (KENET).
August 2-6: Hervey Allen of the NSRC and Carlos Armas (NSRC Engineer) taught a Network Monitoring and Management workshop in Spanish at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua, León, in León, Nicaragua.
July 19-24: Hervey Allen from the NSRC taught and helped to organize an Advanced Registry Operations Course (AROC) that took placee in in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
July 15-23: Phil Regnauld from the NSRC, and Steve Gibbard (NSRC Volunteer) taught and helped organize an ISP/IP Services workshop at the SANOG 16 meeting held in Paro, Bhutan.
July 11-15: The NSRC, along with Internet2 and the AAU, sponsored travel to Columbus, Ohio for Emmanuel Togo of the University of Ghana and Ato Yawson of Ashesi University, Ghana (representing the Ghanaian Academic Research Network, GARNET) to attend the Summer 2010 ESCC/Internet2 Joint Techs meeting, and present on R&E networking and cyberinfrastructure in Ghana and West Africa.
July 13: Steven Huter participated in the International Research Network Connections (IRNC) Workshop with the National Science Foundation in Washington, DC.
June 27-July 3: Hervey Allen from the NSRC presented, organized and taught at the 7th Pacific Network Operators Group meeting (PacNOG 7) held in Pago Pago, American Samoa.
June 30-July 2: Phil Regnauld from the NSRC taught a course on Robust and Reliable DNS Infrastructure (including DNSSEC) at the June APTLD Member's Meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
May 23-June 4: Alain Aina, Hervey Allen and Phil Regnauld taught and helped organize tutorials and workshops at the 11th Annual African Network Operator's Group meeting (AfNOG 11) meeting held in Kigali, Rwanda.
May 29: Alain Aina and Hervey Allen presented at the 2010 AfREN meeting held in conjunction with AfNOG 11 in Kigali, Rwanda.
May 16-21: José Domínguez taught a tutorial on Ingeniería de tráfico para ISP usando cualidades del BGP at the LACNIC XIII meeting held in Curacao, Antilles Netherlands.
April 26-28: Steve Huter and Dale Smith of the NSRC attended the Spring 2010 Internet2 Member Meeting. Dale Smith chaired the Emerging National Research and Education Networking (NREN) sessions. The meeting was held in Arlington, Virginia, USA. NSRC sponsored travel for two Haitian colleagues to speak in the Caribbean Regional Interest Group's session.
April 10-12: Phil Regnauld of the NSRC taught a workshop on Robust and Reliable DNS Infrastructure at the MENOG 6 meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
March 8-13: José Domínguez, Steve Huter, Jeff Hite, Dale Smith and Sebastian Buettrich of the NSRC and the University of Oregon taught and assisted at the KENET-NSRC Campus Network Design workshop held in Nairobi, Kenya at the United States International University campus.
February 22-March 12: The NSRC assisted and taught at the Workshop and Awareness Conference on Evolution of Wireless Technologies hosted by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in Trieste, Italy.
February 23-27: Hervey Allen and Phil Regnauld of the NSRC taught a Network Management Workshop as part of the APRCIOT 2010 event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
January 31-February 4: The NSRC sponsored travel to Salt Lake City, Utah for Kevin Chege and Godwin Barechi of the Kenya Education Network (KENET) to attend the Winter 2010 ESCC/Internet2 Joint Techs meeting where they gave a talk on the state of R&E networking in Eastern and Southern Africa.
