SUMMARY:Workshop on LPWAN and Solutions for the Internet of Things
LOCATION:Makerere\, Uganda
URL:http://indico.ictp.it/event/9033/
DESCRIPTION:The involvement of National Research and \nEducation Networks (
NREN) in East Africa \nis key for the growth of Internet of Things \n(IoT)
applications in the region\, as they can \nhost the access infrastructure t
o foster \nresearch in IoT and to serve the IoT \ncommunity at large.\n \nT
he growth of the Internet of Things will \ndepend crucially on the establis
hment of a \nlow cost infrastructure to handle traffic \ngenerated by IoT n
odes. Low Power Wide \nArea Network (LPWAN) solutions based on \nopen stand
 ards that address the \nrequirements of scalability\, heterogeneity\, \nsec
urity and complexity will be presented in \nthe Workshop.\n \nWe will focus
on The Things Network \n(TTN)\, an initiative to build a world-wide \nopen
source infrastructure to facilitate a \npublic Internet of Things. TTN ope
rates by \nallowing users to share the access to \ngateways. We think NRENs
in the region \nshould play a leading role in hosting this \ninfrastructur
 e. As TTN allows for low-\nbandwidth communications over long \ndistances\,
it can facilitate the deployment of \napplications relevant to East Africa
 n \ncountries.\n \nTopics:\n• Wireless solutions for IoT\;\n• LoRa and
LoRaWAN protocols\;\n• Prototyping of sensor boards\;\n• Planning and d
eployment of a LPWAN \nnetwork\;\n• Collection and visualization of the d
 ata.\n\nMore: https://nsrc.org/calendar/helpfiles/workshop_info_main.php?id
