DESCRIPTION:The Abdus Salam International \nCentre for Theoretical Physics 
 \n(ICTP\, Italy) along with the Centro \nInternacional de Fisica (CIF) of \
 nColombia organize the above \nmentioned course\, to be held at \nCIF \, Ed
 ificio de Programas \nEspeciales "Manuel Ancízar" \nCiudad Universitaria\,
  Bogotá D.C.\, \nColombia. Experienced tutors will \nguide and assist part
 icipants \nduring the laboratory sessions. \nMotivated participants with a 
 good \nteaching background can later \nbecome instructors for similar \ncou
 rses to be offered in their home \ninstitutions\, taking advantage of \nthe
  set of training materials \ndeveloped for this purpose at \nICTP\, which a
 re available in \nEnglish\, Spanish and French (See \nhttp://WTKit.org). \n
 \nSUMMARY AND PURPOSE \n\nThe aim of this activity is to train \nparticipan
 ts in the planning\, \ndesigning\, building and \nmaintaining broadband wir
 eless \ndata networks that can cover \nconsiderable distances. Such \nnetwo
 rks can be used to provide \nInternet access\, build Campus \nnetworks\, or
  collect data from \nremote sensors with scientific\, \nenvironmental\, and
  many other \napplications. The use of alternative \nenergy source to power
  the \ncommunication devices will be \nemphasized\, as these solutions \nar
 e particularly useful in rural \nareas where grid power may be \nlacking or
  unreliable. The \ndevelopment of the Wireless \nTraining Kit that will be 
 used for \nthis training was sponsored by \nUnesco and is freely available 
 to \nbe adopted as a teaching \ninstrument for the interested \nparticipant
 s. \n\nEl propósito de esta actividad es el \nde entrenar a los participan
 tes en \nla planificación\, diseño\, \nconstrucción y mantenimiento de \
 nredes inalámbricas de banda \nancha que pueden cubrir \ndistancias consid
 erable. Estas \nredes pueden usarse para acceso \na Internet\, para constit
 uir redes de \nCampus\, o para recolectar datos \nde sensors remotos\, con 
 \naplicaciones científicas\, \nambientales y de muchos otros \ntipos. Se e
 nfatizará el uso de \nFuentes alternativas de energía \npara alimentar a 
 los equipos de \ntelecomunicaciones\, puesto que \nestas soluciones son \np
 articularmente relevantes en \nzonas rurales en las que el \nsuministro ele
 ctrico puede no \nexistir o ser deficiente. El kit de \nentrenamiento en re
 des \ninalámbricas (WTKit) que se \nutilizará en esta actividad fue \ndes
 arrollado en el ICTP a solicitud \nde la UNESCO y puede ser \nutilizado gra
 tuitamente como \ninstrumento de enseñanza por \naquellos participantes qu
 e deseen \nconvertirse en instructores en sus \nrespectivas sedes. \n\nPART
 ICIPATION \n\nScientists\, technologists\, teachers \nand students from Lat
 in America \nand the Caribbean countries that \nare members of the United \
 nNations\, UNESCO or IAEA may \nattend the Course. As the Course \nwill be 
 conducted in Spanish\, \nparticipants must have a good \nworking knowledge 
 of that \nlanguage. A basic knowledge of \nnetworking with TCP/IP is also \
 nrequired. \n\nAs a rule\, travel and subsistence \nexpenses of the partici
 pants are \nborne by the home institution. \nHowever\, limited funds are \n
 available for some participants \nfrom\, and working in\, developing \ncoun
 tries\, to be selected by the \norganizers. Such financial support \nis ava
 ilable only for those who \nattend the entire activity. Every \neffort shou
 ld be made by \ncandidates to secure support for \ntheir fare (or at least 
 half fare) from \ntheir home country. There is no \nregistration fee to att
