Huter" Subject: RE: Laos and the Internet Hi Dolo, Some updates since UNDP report: 1- SingTel now feeds LaoTel.com (Lao Telecom) with a 2Mbs link using improved cable technology; I guess it's over existing the telephone cable network and satellite. LaoTel is fast becoming the ISP of choice over Globecom (laonet.net) who is operating over a 512k satellite link to Subic bay in PH. A typical trace to respective hosts measure 2500ms to Globecom (www.laonet.net) and 1200ms to www.LaoTel.com. 2- Remote connectivity is still over phone lines, over 2Mbs microwave backbone, but quite extensive to reach most part of Laos where the phone network reaches. 3- Japanese funded programs are trying to link Laos to Vietnam and on to Japan; promising a fiber connection. rgds, Pan
