From: Jim Holland To: Maria Dolores Lizarzaburu Cc: sghuter@nsrc.org Date: Fri, 17 Sep 2004 12:28:46 +0100 (BST) > 1)Please list the ISPs with external/international connectivity > currently operating in the Zimbabwe: Due to the regulatory environment here, only the monopoly parastatal, TelOne, has a licence to operate with full duplex international Internet connectivity. There are two ISPs that have de facto duplex connectivity of their own: Ecoweb, which obtained the right to operate its own international link as a result of protracted court cases over many years, and Telco Internet (whose licence is currently pending). The remaining larger ISPs operate satellite downlinks in addition to their basic connectivity supplied by TelOne. Last month all ISPs (including Ecoweb and Telco Internet) were ordered to shut down their satellite links with immediate effect by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, POTRAZ, on the grounds that the links were illegal. So far none of the ISPs have complied, arguing that there was no legal basis to the claim that the links were illegal. > 2) Is there an open, public Internet Exchange point in Zimbabwe? If > so, please provide its URL. There is no public Internet exchange. However ZISPA operates a private peering point known as ZINX, the Zimbabwe Internet Exchange, which is open to its members. It does not have a URL. Jim Holland
