Well - Internet is still a dream in the future, but it is true: I have developed the oldest e-mail store-and-forward service in Cambodia since early 1994. If an Internet ramp finally will come to Cambodia, we hope to get access too, as I have been the person who took the initiative in January '96 to establish contact with the Asia Interconnectivity Internet Initiative ("AI3") from Japan, which may result in a satellite link later this year. At present we are a UUCP dislup service, with three international mail exchange connections per day. I send you a section of our basic document: *** The Open Forum Information Exchange is one of the activities of the Open Forum of Cambodia. The goal of the Open Forum Information Exchange is to provide Cambodian institutions - government and non-government - and other institutions and individuals working in cooperation or support with Cambodian institutions with access to information and communication which: * improve technical understanding of issues relevant to development and policy in Cambodia * facilitate rapid broad distribution of information among persons with related concerns * promote debate about options for handling development and policy issues * allow rapid private electronic mail communication within Cambodia, and * contribute to building a stronger civil society in Cambodia. *** There is not much more to be said at present - but you are welcome if you have some more questions.
