From: kathy@niherst.gov.tt (Kathy-Ann Joseph) To: sghuter@nsrc.org (Steven Huter) Date: Mon, 23 Dec 96 09:26:33 AST Attention: Steve Huter Well, there are currently a few ISPs in T&T who use TSTTs services to connect to the internet. They are: Interserve: http://www.trinidad.net (?? not certain of this URL) Wownet: http://www.wow.net Carib-Link: http://www.carib-link.net Opus Networx: http://www.opus.co.tt OR www.opus-networx.com TSTT: http://www.tstt.net.tt I am not certain about the connection at Opus Networx. They were in existence prior to TSTT obtaining an Internet Connection. As yet, everyone in T&T connect to one of these providers to obtain the service. With respect to the academic and research institutions, many of them do not have any internet connection and those that do, have a simple dial up link to an ISP. The University of the West Indies is taking some steps to change their status wrt the Internet (my contact there is ikram@ldc.uwi.tt Ikram Mohammed). The other R&D and academic institutions in the country do not at present see the necessity of a full internet connection with leased line etc. Their present situations only require dial up linkages. There are also plans for the establishment of a network for schools. TSTT would be the best source for information on general networking infrastructure (contact Bernice Lumsden lumsdenb@tstt.net.tt) Kathy-Ann Joseph ------------------------------------------------------------------- NIHERST Tel: 1 (809) 625-2110/4145 20 Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain Fax: 1 (809) 625-4161 TRINIDAD, West Indies -------------------------------------------------------------------
