From: lars_j@niherst.gov.tt (Lars Johnson) To: Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond Date: Fri, 18 Feb 94 13:56:21 AST There's a new node in Trinidad, and new Caribbean nodes will keep popping up almost on a weekly basis. Plans here (in Trinidad/Tobago specifically) are to form a local network of UUCP nodes with a few concentrator nodes having external UUCP accounts on UPR2.CLU.NET (in Puerto Rico). There's some hope that ICL's local office will act as a hub for local users, and ICL may also be offering some IP access later this year. We are all hoping that this will be soon, and that we will be able to afford to use the facility if and when it becomes available. As far as that goes, it's really a question of economics and the type of financing the project receives, but the purely technical requirements are soon to be at least clarified. This follows a recent course at the University of the West Indies St Augustine Campus, on Data Networks. Some key technocrats were there, and it was recognized that there needs to be a greater attempt to provide a national forum for provision of standard FQDN sites according to established procedures. At this point nothing much is very definite, but at NIHERST we are doing as much as we can to promote greater awareness and acceptance of e-mail, which is still a very new concept to many persons here.
