From: Yiannos Pitas To: Steven Huter CC: sghuter@psg.com Date: Tue, 3 Oct 1995 10:10:50 +0300 (WET) Since 1989, when the University of Cyprus was established, the university was the only organization that was connected to the Internet. However, since last month (18th of September to be exact) the local PTT deregulated the Internet connectivity and a couple of companies came up with links to the outside world. Currently the University of Cyprus has a main router acting as the backbone for the whole campus (a CISCO AGS+). We have a 64kb leased line to France (EBONE). Local LANS are connected together by category 3 and 5 utp cables and fiber optic where applicable. Smaller routers are scattered around the campus giving connectivity to all units and services. The local PTT (CYTANet) is now giving Internet connectivity to for-profit organizations and individuals, but they are connected to our main router. A new leased line was established for that reason that connects our main router to NY (MCI) through a 64kb line. All academic traffic is routed via EBONE and all commercial traffic is routed via MCI. The PTT's LAN is also composed of a CISCO access router giving its customers ppp connectivity. LogoNet is also a new ISP and works much link CYTANet. It has a 64Kb leased line to Greece and gives SLIP/PPP access to its users through an access router from CISCO. Also, CYLINK and SPIDERLINK are two new ISPs but dont have any information on them.
