Among ARMINCO founders were: Institute for Automated Systems of the ex-USSR, State Long-Distance Phone Switch of Armenia and the National Service for Seismic Protection of Armenia. ARMINCO started its activity in 1992 as a regional node of the Institute for Automated Systems Network (IASNet) which was the first global packet-switching network (X.25 based) in the former USSR. In March 1994 ARMINCO establised TCP/IP connection with SOVAM-Teleport Moscow (Internet Provider in Russia) and in May 1994 ARMINCO becomes the First Internet Provider in Armenia and creates network known as AICNet. At present ARMINCO manages 2 Internet domains *.arminco.com and *.aic.net and provides its users with 3 major services: ARMINCO ONLINE(tm), ARMINCO UUCP (or offline) and ARMINCO IP. ARMINCO ONLINE(tm) is a menu-oriented online information service which includes global E-Mail, Usenet Newsgroups, Internet Resources(Telnet, Finger, Gopher, World Wide Web), Gateway to X.25 Networks (ex-USSR resources via IASNet and North America resources via Sprint), Local Bulletin Boards etc. ARMINCO ONLINE(tm) may be used via any telecommunications software. ARMINCO ONLINE(tm) users get accountname consists of 8 chars max and their Internet E-Mail address looks like: username@arminco.com ARMINCO UUCP is an offline E-Mail service which is based on special telecommunications software supporting UUCP (Unix-to-Unix Copy Protocol) like UUCP Extended, Taylor UUCP, UUPC/@, Foobar UUCP etc. ARMINCO UUCP users e-mail address looks like user@companyname.arminco.com The number of users within UUCP subdomain is unlimited. ARMINCO IP services gives opportunity to use full-range of Internet Facilites by providing IP connection to separate hosts or networks. ARMINCO IP provides both PPP and SLIP connections. Besides Internet Services ARMINCO provides X.25 and X.400 services. All the services, mentioned above could be accessed via dial-up lines, leased lines, telnet session or X.25 connection - telnet arminco.arminco.com X.25:(0250)299004508(In Europe) 311073411011(North America) ARMINCO has about 300 users in Armenia. Among them: International Organizations(UN, Peace Corps. etc.), Embassies, Governmental organizations and private companies, scientific and academic institutions, universities and individuals. We take pride in having Armenian Government, Parliament and President of Armenia as our customers. ARMINCO plays a vital role in integration of Armenia into the world community by improving information and communications infrastructure, permitting Government agencies, academic and and scientific institutions, NGOs to access external databases, global data and electronic mail networks, online and offline information resources, teleconferences and mailing lists. People from outside Armenia is able to access uniquely Armenian Information via ARMINCO facilities. This information include: Daily News from Armenia, various Armenian databases and directories, academic, scientific, economic, commercial and technical cooperation data, country information (history, culture, art, travel) etc. ARMINCO is providing a channel for the information interchange between Armenian communities throughout the world.
