It took almost two years to get it done, what with technical and financial difficulties that were beyond the control of NIC. Nevertheless, we managed to overcome it all with the support and cooperation of national and international institutions. The Node has a 64k link to the U.S.A via Sprintlink, the local portion is a fiber optics link which NIC established. NIC went online on the 26 October. It has been agreed that NIC will provide internet connectivity to public sector institutions and universities directly, while private sector institutions will be handled by the Telecom Corporation of Jordan using NIC link. NIC started connecting institutions either via leased lines or dial-up. Hopefully the link bandwidth will be increased by the beginning of 1996 to catre for the demand.
