It was started as a hobby BBS by two young guys : Kais Al-Essa and Haitham AboAisha. Today, Sahara is one of the mostly used BBSs in Saudi Arabia. Since Sahara introduced Internet E-Mail back in June 1st, 1994 to the Saudi Arabia public for minimal charges, the doors of Sahara haven't stopped knocking ! Sahara is now not just a BBS, its more like a small Internet Provider. Some of the aspects that made Sahara unique to its users are : 1. We don't dictate, we share the decisions with our users, 2. We are attendant and support our users from the very start, 3. We don't ignore users comment and suggestions and usually consider them and if appropriate use them, 4. We are the first ever to offer the public a local means of accessing the Internet. Sahara is moving very rapidly and looking forward to the day that full Internet services are offered inside Saudi Arabia with a fair charge. Network State in Saudi Arabia : Mostly its poor. There are very few dedicated circuits and almost all the communication lines are analogue. This can give an idea about how primitive it is. The AT&T project is very much needed, and is needed NOW ! Saudi Arabia can't compete and have effective communication means if the PTT network is not upgraded quickly !
