From: "Jan David" To: sghuter@nsrc.org (Steven Huter) Date: Mon, 20 Jan 1997 22:49:21 -0003 Hello, > 1) A brief technical description of your current network OK. We currently have 2 Pentium 133 MHz machines running Linux 2.0.27, a Livingston Portmaster 2E, a Cisco 1000 router and three ordinary PC's running Windows95 (for the Cybercafe). All machines are connected through a standard 10 Mbps UTP ethernet network. The router is connected to a 64 kbps leased line modem which connects up to the > From there, we connect to the Transpac service of France Telecom (64 kbps) via a satellite link > From there on it up the RAIN backbone (I guess - I'm not 100% sure about that). > 2) A brief technical description of the equipment/platform you are using > for your servers, routers, modems, etc. cayenne.nplus.gf: ---------------------- a Pentium 133 MHz, 32 Mb ram and 2 Gb Harddisk running Linux 2.0.27. This machine serves as our Web server (Apache 1.1.1) and mail host (POP3). ns1.nplus.gf: ---------------- a Pentium 133 MHz, 32 Mb ram and 2 Gb harddisk running Linux 2.0.27. This machine is our primary name server (BIND, lastest release, I forgot the number) and anonymous FTP server (wu-ftpd 2.4.2). Portmaster 2e: ----------------- This is the terminal server for our dial-up clients. We currently support 20 active dial-up connections. That's very much for only 64kbps, but at this moment, France Telecom cannot provide us with a higher bandwidth. We are thinking of buying our own dish to connect to the states via the 325.5 E satellite and a 256kbps carrier. > 3) Information about the pricing/costs of using your network. As mentioned before, we can only get 64kbps ourselves. Therefore we are looking for other solutions. As far as costs go: for $60 a month you get unlimited access. Ten hours on-line time costs you $40 and 15 cent a minute after that. You can also start with $10 a month a pay 15 cents every minute directly. > 4) Can you describe the current state of academic/research networking > in GF ? As far as I know, only the ORSTOM has a full-fledged Internet connection and the CSG (Centre Spatial Guyanais).
