Advanced ccTLD Workshop Assessment and Planning Guide

=

This assessment form is to help us determine what topics and direction to taken when we finalize a course outline for upcoming ccTLD workshops. We wish to customize the workshop topics to areas that will be useful to you. The more information you can give us in this assessment document, the better we will be able to do this.

1. SELF-ASSESSMENT

1a. Describe a major challenge that you have faced over the last months or years in operating and developing the registry operation.

Please include:

	* The policy and the technical aspects of the challenge.
	* Interested parties who were involved in the process.
	* Solutions, if any, you have deployed to solve the challenge(s).
	* Tools or training that were included in your planning process.

The policy and the technical aspects of the challenge. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Development of a policy was pretty straight forward. The challange has been the development of a tool for the online registraion of domains. i.e. the automation of the registration process as well as the setup of a query system (whois) services for the .gh domain.

Technically registration process is mostly a manual one.

It has also been a challenge setting up the registry/registrar model for the .gh registry (ghnic)

Interested Parties: +++++++++++++++++++++++ – .gh registry (GHNIC) – government – ISP Association – Educational Institutions

Solutions, if any, you have deployed to solve the challenge(s). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ No real solutions have been deployed, we once tried openreg but it was being developed and we did not get far with it.

We are currently trying out DNRS, FRED and some other tools

1b. Describe the projects on which you are currently working to solve or deploy, and their importance (ranking).

Please include:

	* Interested parties involved in the process.
	* Plans for new hardware or software.
	* Additional skills or training that would support your project.

Testing the DNRS and FRED packages to see if it can be used for managing the registry.

Interested Parties ++++++++++++++++++ Interested parties are mainly GhNIC staff (volunteers) - Godfred Ofori-Som - Ayitey Bulley

Plans for new Hardware or Software +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Once we are done testing of DNRS and FRED packages, and one package is selected, we will then look at the hardware requirements etc..

Additional Skills +++++++++++++++++ Registry based training programs Sripting and programming

1c. Describe the major areas where you plan to spend resources (time, money) in the next two years and how important they are to your registry.

Please include:

	* A timeline (within 6 months, within 2 years, ..).

	* Additional requirements (staff, tools, software, etc.).

	* How did these topics make your list.
          (scaling issue, customer demand, value add service etc.)

	* Probability of actual deployment.
          (not very likely, rather likely, very likely, unavoidable).

Spend time in testing and deploying a registry system (within 3 months) Buy and deploy reqired hardware for registry system and registry tools (withing 6 months) Training of potential registrars (6 months - 1 year)
