Advanced ccTLD Workshop Assessment and Planning Guide

=

This assessment form is to help us determine what topics and direction to taken when we finalize a course outline for upcoming ccTLD workshops. We wish to customize the workshop topics to areas that will be useful to you. The more information you can give us in this assessment document, the better we will be able to do this.

1. SELF-ASSESSMENT

1a. Describe a major challenge that you have faced over the last months or years in operating and developing the registry operation.

Please include:

	* The policy and the technical aspects of the challenge.
	* Interested parties who were involved in the process.
	* Solutions, if any, you have deployed to solve the challenge(s).
	* Tools or training that were included in your planning process.

Well, over the years our main challenge has been to create an online registration system, which would allow for a better method of registration. We have looked at various solutions but we have not been able to implement them. We are now in the process of implemeting such a system, which will allow us to do the registrations online. The solution we are trying to implement now came as a result of attending the ICANN meeting in LA in 2007. We have basically installed the system, we are now about to test it and then we will move to create a database with our current zones and deploy.

1b. Describe the projects on which you are currently working to solve or deploy, and their importance (ranking).

Please include:

	* Interested parties involved in the process.
	* Plans for new hardware or software.
	* Additional skills or training that would support your project.

We are now working on setting up the online registration system for our zone .MZ. This is right now our top priority. This involves only a team of two individuals, me and my colleague David Bila from CIUEM which is the manager for the .MZ domain. No new hardware is planned at this point as we have the necessary hardware. Well, we are already in the final stages of implementation and regarding the installation and operation of this solution no further skills are required. However, it would be useful to have some training in DNS with IPv6 in order to prepare for future usage.

1c. Describe the major areas where you plan to spend resources (time, money) in the next two years and how important they are to your registry.

Please include:

	* A timeline (within 6 months, within 2 years, ..).

	* Additional requirements (staff, tools, software, etc.).

	* How did these topics make your list.
          (scaling issue, customer demand, value add service etc.)

	* Probability of actual deployment.
          (not very likely, rather likely, very likely, unavoidable).

In the next 6 months we think of getting 2 new servers to replace the existing servers, this will require further time for installation and configuration of the system. This will be important in keeping the hardware as recent and reliable as possible on which our registry relies. We do not foresee any need for more staff at this point and we shall use the same tools as we are using now.
