Abstract:
Research and Education Networks exist in many regions of the world. These networks typically serve the broader University community, however, they often can be leveraged to support a broader mission, including humanitarian efforts. This panel will include experts from the United States, Africa, Europe, and South America to explore the use of research and education networks to serve humanitarian goals. It will provide an introduction to research and education networking from around the world and will then provide some specific examples of leveraging these networks for broader purposes.

Questions from Jim Miller to Panel:
Dale: Let's assume I am an organization working in some country, but I have no idea whether there is an R&E network or how I would talk to them. What should I do?
Emmanuel: What are some of the challenges integrating wireless technology into a Campus LAN?
Ermanno: Is there a substantial difference on the impact of Internet on educational institutions between developing and developed countries?
Sebastian: The big visions are all very fine, but .... how does one approach sustainable energy practically? If i need to power a Network Operations Center (NOC) or a network by solar power - what do i do?
Marco: How did you manage to make the Malawi project sustainable? Is the link still working?
