============================ Syed Faisal Hasan: Brief Bio ============================ He is currently working as an associate professor at the department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dhaka University, Bangladesh. He has a passion for improving lives by spreading the benefits of Information and Communication Technology at the grass roots level. With this vision, he has been actively involved with a number of projects which aim to improve Internet access, ICT literacy and promote use of the Internet for the benefit of people in Bangladesh. Currently, as the president of Internet Society Bangladesh Dhaka Chapter, he is working towards advancing the mission of the Internet Society. He believes that in many Asian countries like Bangladesh, proper education and use of an open and affordable Internet can not only remove a lot of obstacles but also has the possibility to change the lives of people by raising awareness, improving connectivity and facilitating freedom of expression. In order to improve the openness of Internet, he is collaborating on a project titled open Internet with the Internet Society Netherlands chapter. Besides this, he participated at the 7th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) where he contributed in different sessions which brought in a developing country's perspective into the discussions. Faisal is playing a very important role in Internet Governance capacity building in Bangladesh. Faisal has been well connected with a number of International groups. He participated in workshops organized and funded by Asia New Zealand Young Leaders Network, and Network Start up Resource Center (NSRC) and Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC). He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Otago, New Zealand. This year he is participating at TIP 2013 as an APAN-NSRC fellow.
